Help Scott, Lara & Baby Isaiah Through Their Crisis
Donation protected
Hi - I have never done a GoFundMe, but this seems like the right time to try it. This is my brother, Scott, an incredible, hard-working man who has worked two jobs as long as I can remember - both as a beloved high school English teacher at Mandarin High and also as a waiter at Olive Garden on weekends and during summer break. He and his wife Lara, a Nigerian artist he met while visiting Lagos in 2019, were married two years ago. In the fall, they defied many odds to become pregnant with their first baby.
The good news is that Isaiah Eugene Ayomide Price, who was born this Monday, August 6 in an emergency c-section, is doing wonderfully. Unfortunately, within an hour of the c-section, Lara's vitals took a dramatic turn, her heart stopped and the hospital called a code blue. The amazing team at Baptist South saved her life and after subsequent surgeries, she is considered critical, but stable. As of today, she remains in the ICU, intubated and unable to hold her newborn. Baby Isaiah is at my mom's house now, with my brother and mom tending to him while going back and forth to the hospital to be with Lara.
Many of you have asked how you can help, and the answer is we just don't know right now. But Anita (a fellow teacher at his school) and I both think there will be expenses ahead - whether via medical costs, or by bringing in a postpartum doula or nurse to help Lara and the baby once she is out of the hospital, or simply just ordering diapers and formula. If you would like to help, we are creating a space for friends & family to make a small donation (even $10 will quickly grow!) to take at least one stressor off their plate as they begin this journey as a family.
Thank you,
