Help Scott Fitzhugh battle Stage 4 lung cancer.

Donation protected

My cousin-in-law, Scott Fitzhugh, and his family were recently shocked by a devastating medical diagnosis of Stage 4 lung cancer. Please prayerfully consider what you can do to help Scott and his family and then please respond accordingly.  No contribution is too small. I will continue to update this page as additional information is known.

Scott has been dealing with throat problems for several months which began with trouble swallowing and non-stop coughing. After initial treatments, the incessant coughing remained. Various ideas about reflux and allergies were explored, but the coughing worsened. The first week of April 2021, Scott began coughing up blood. This condition worsened, and Scott landed in the emergency room for further evaluation.

After x-rays, CT scans, and an MRI, a mass was discovered in Scott’s lung which was biopsied and sent for analysis.  Scott was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer which has quickly spread to his spine and brain. He will start radiation treatment on his brain on April 19th and will receive a total of 14 daily treatments. Biopsy results are due April 15th which should help guide the treatment path forward.

To those who know Scott, you know he’s still a young man with a young family...too young to be facing this devastating diagnosis.  His 4 boys range in age from 17 to 23 with the youngest still in high school. Scott dedicated his life to the ministry at age 19 and has been a lifelong servant.  He has served his church by teaching Sunday School,  serving as children's church minister, and by preaching on various occasions.  He has also spent 17 years (and counting) serving Boy Scout Troop 57 and Pack 1978.  Scott earned Eagle Scout as a teenager and had one son follow in his footsteps.  And, he previously served Garland ISD and is currently working with Plano ISD. Scott’s wife, Regina, also serves Garland schools, so serving runs in their family.

Medical expenses are mounting now and will continue to accumulate. Even with medical insurance, Scott and family will need help. No one wants to ask others for financial assistance, but I’m asking for your help for Scott and family. With all else facing them, they shouldn’t have to stress about finances and paying medical bills.

Please help.
