Help Our Dad Come Home After a Life-Changing Accident

On August 22nd, our lives completely changed. Our dad, Scott, suffered a fall that resulted in a fractured spine and a heart attack. He was med-flighted to Boston for emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his spine.

For weeks, he was in the ICU on a ventilator, fighting for his life. He’s now breathing on his own and in a rehabilitation hospital, but the doctors say recovery will be a long road — right now, he has no movement below his neck. Our dad has been a contractor for decades, so this came as a particularly devastating diagnosis for someone’s whose life and livelihood have always been built with his hands.

Before all this happened, Scott/dad was in the middle of remodeling our grandmother’s house. He’s hardworking, talented, and has always been the type to do things himself, this remodel being no exception. However, the house is still unfinished — no ceilings, open walls — and we have a lot of work to do to make it safe and accessible before he will be able to come home.

Scott/dad is someone who doesn’t like to ask for help, but now we have less than two months until his scheduled release date to get the work done, and need additional support.

We’re raising money to:

    •    Finish the house so it’s safe and accessible for him when he comes home

    •    Add a wheelchair-accessible shower on the first floor so he can bathe safely and comfortably

    •    Aquire any medical equipment and home care that insurance doesn’t cover

My dad has always worked hard to take care of everyone else — now it’s our turn to take care of him.
