9/17/26 - This week Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue rescued a 5 year old female from an animal control in GA. Her name is Lucy Rose. They gave a breakdown of her condition, and a few pictures, and they reported that she was sweet, but in a lot of pain. SCMR agreed to take her, a foster home volunteered to help Lucy Rose.

We have had Lucy Rose examined by two veterinarians, the second one is an orthopedic specialist. The specialist has said they feel they can help Lucy Roses quality of life, helping to relieve most of the constant pain she is in.

We don't know what happened to Lucy Rose, she was picked up as a stray, but no one came looking for her. Because of her medical needs, she was released as rescue only to get the medical care she needs.

Briefly, Lucy Rose has a dislocated right hip and both of her knees are dislocated and in very bad shape, otherwise she is in pretty good health.

Because it seems that the injuries have been going on so long, it has caused extensive damage, and we don't know how long her hip has been out, or how it happened.

We are reaching out to our supporters for donations to help pay for the operations that Lucy Rose needs. We don't have to do both legs, we certainly want to get the hip fixed.

The estimate to start with her right knee and hip is about $8800. This includes the surgery, the boarding for that night, and a CT scan, we will get a 10% rescue discount , so that means the new total is $7920, the discount was not applied to the estimate. We are still trying to get estimates from other doctors to see if we can find one that is a little less.

The left knee will be about $4800, we can focus on that later, Lucy Rose would need 6 weeks between surgeries.

We know this is a lot of money, because Lucy Rose is so young, and potentially has many years to enjoy life, we feel that we want to try to help her.

Please consider a donation so that we can help Lucy Rose and improve her quality of life. She is just 5 years old, and potentially has a lot of years to enjoy.

We have discussed the possibility of a wheelchair for Lucy Rose, but we first need to help her with her pain. Yes, she is on pain meds, but that only helps so much.

Lucy Rose is in a lot of pain, and we want to help her as soon as we can with surgery. We are a small rescue with limited funds, we are already spending fund on 6 dogs that we recently took in that need Spay/neuter, and we have another little one that broke a hand that is being treated by an orthopedic doctor.

Thanks all for reading about Lucy Rose, please consider helping us to help Lucy Rose, no donation is to small, and all donations are greatly appreciated. Please share this post about Lucy Rose!
