Ladybug’s story is one of incredible resilience. Once destined for the slaughterhouse, she was saved thanks to an outpouring of love and support from this community. Now, she faces a new challenge—one that could change her life forever.

A Heartbreaking Loss & A New Chance at Healing

Ladybug was recently pregnant—something we had worked hard to achieve in an effort to buy her more time before her previous owner sold her to slaughter. After multiple attempts, when it seemed like she wouldn’t conceive, he was ready to sell her for meat. That’s when our donors stepped in and helped us rescue her. Shortly after, we discovered that she was pregnant after all.

Tragically, just one week ago, Ladybug gave birth to stillborn twin foals—something we never even knew was possible. One had passed away in her womb, causing the loss of the other. It was devastating for all of us, and after everything she’s been through, Ladybug deserves a chance at true healing—not just survival.

Clinical Research & The Path Forward

Ladybug has now been accepted into clinical research at the University of Torino Veterinary School, where specialists will finally determine the root cause of her Wobbler’s Syndrome. We don’t yet know whether it was caused by an injury, a mosquito-borne illness like West Nile (which she previously had), or genetics. But this research is the first step toward real answers.

Once we understand the cause, we can explore treatment options such as:

• Injections to reduce inflammation and improve mobility

• Physical therapy to help her regain strength and comfort

• Surgery, if needed, to stabilize her spine and give her the best quality of life

Now that her life no longer depends on breeding to stay safe, we want to do what’s truly best for her health moving forward. This includes determining her general well-being, her long-term comfort level, whether she will ever be able to be ridden, and if breeding her again is a safe possibility given her genetics.

This is just the beginning of Ladybug’s healing journey, and we want to be fully prepared for the next steps. Our goal is to raise funds for her diagnostic tests, initial treatments, transportation to and from the university, and any additional care she may need.
