The area around Marine on St. Croix was hit hard by a storm early Tuesday morning. We were lucky no trees fell on the St. Croix Chocolate Company building, but the storm knocked out power for 34 hours. Like most businesses in town, we could not operate without power, so we had to close. In addition to losing income, we lost hundreds of dollars in ingredients, too.
Although we do have business insurance, the deductible is quite high, while summer is always our leanest time. In the fall or winter, we'd be able to absorb these costs, but in summer, it's virtually impossible for us.
We'd be incredibly grateful if you could help us out of this corner the storm painted us into. A buck or two would be wonderful, and we promise to pay your kindness forward (we donate $1500 in chocolate to community groups and fundraisers each year)!
