Help Save Scattered Kind: A Hub of Creativity and Community
Four years ago, I left the corporate world in search of something more fulfilling and meaningful. This journey led to the creation of Scattered Kind, a studio dedicated to offering creative tufting workshops that promotes the art of tufting. Our studio is more than just a business; it's a vibrant space where artistry, creativity, and community spirit thrive. Each workshop we conduct is an opportunity for individuals to learn, create, and connect in a supportive environment.

Our Community Impact
From the very beginning, Scattered Kind has been committed to enriching our community through art. Building this business from scratch, we pioneered the first tufting studio in the country. We navigated a variety of challenges and learned how to operate our business without any other studios to reference. Our innovative approach has been integral in boosting recognition for the art of rug tufting, and has provided a blueprint for similar studios to have a successful and effective operation in their respective cities.

Our workshops are designed to be inclusive and welcoming, treating each participant with respect, compassion, and patience as they learn this new form of art. The positive impact on each individual, whether they are a complete beginner or an experienced artist, is at the heart of what we do.

Over time, Scattered Kind has evolved into a vibrant creative hub, collaborating with businesses and local non-profits like Apex for Youth, CAMBA, and East Side Stories. Not only have we offered tufting workshops to those in need who wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity, but we have also hosted various music and cultural events for the AAPI community, deepening our local involvement.

Our efforts have been recognized on ABC, NBC, and FOX, underscoring our commitment to quality and community engagement.

Challenges We Are Facing
Despite our positive impact, Scattered Kind has faced significant financial challenges as the current state of the economy has made it difficult to survive as a business. Rising costs for rent and materials have further strained our resources. We have struggled to stay afloat amidst the economic downturn, job layoffs, and rising inflation, which have put us in a position of significant debt. These financial difficulties are threatening our ability to continue upgrading the studio, provide valuable benefits to our staff, and offer workshops and events for the broader community.

Our Vision for the Future
We have developed a strategic plan to overcome these challenges and continue our mission. We aim to expand our offerings to include high-quality yarn cones, making tufting even more accessible to the masses. By selling the materials we personally use in our studio, we plan to shift to a business model where product sales help support the tufting workshop side of our business. We also plan to host more workshops and events, enhancing our space to better accommodate these activities and further support the local art community.

How You Can Help
To implement our future plans and get back on solid ground, we need to raise at least $40,000:
  • Reduce Debt: Alleviating the financial burden from rising costs and other challenges.
  • Facility Improvements: Repairing and upgrading our studio to create a better environment for workshops and events.
  • Expand Product Line: Introducing high-quality yarn cones to our offerings, meeting the needs of a broader customer base.
  • Marketing and Outreach: Increasing our marketing efforts to attract more customers and grow our community.
  • Support Staff: Hiring part-time staff to assist with workshops and customer service, enhancing our ability to serve our clients.

Call to Action
We need your help to save Scattered Kind. Every donation brings us closer to our goal and helps ensure that our unique space continues to live and serve the community. Your support will impact not only our business but also the artists, creatives, and community members who rely on Scattered Kind for inspiration and creativity. Additionally, your contributions will support the AAPI community, as we continue to host events and workshops that celebrate and uplift AAPI voices and talents. Together, we can preserve this community treasure and keep the spirit of creativity alive.

Thank you for your generosity and support.
