My name is Georgina, and I’m the mum of four children. This fundraiser is for my eldest daughter, Scarlett, who turns 12 in November.
I have managed Scarlett's previous surgeries, complex therapies, and equipment needs alone since birth. However, as her medical needs have grown, the high risk of these three upcoming surgeries has reached a level of complexity and cost that I cannot manage by myself any longer.
Scarlett is facing the biggest challenge of her life: two major surgeries—one on her brain for drug-resistant epilepsy, and another on her right foot to correct a painful deformity.
Our immediate goal is to raise £12,000 to cover the life-changing equipment, essential therapies, and basic living support that will make her recovery possible and safe.
Scarlett will continue receiving all support available through the NHS and her school, but due to the complexity of her needs and the unpredictability of her recovery, she will also require additional specialised equipment and timely rehabilitation that fall outside what can be funded or provided. Many of her essential post-surgery needs involve long NHS waiting times or only basic provision, and she will need access to the correct equipment from day one of recovery to prevent medical complications and maximise her progress.
Every pound raised will be used directly for Scarlett’s recovery, with full transparency and updates shared along the way.
️️️⚠️ Scarlett's Medical Reality
Scarlett has faced complex medical challenges since birth. She requires close 1:1 supervision every minute of every day - even throughout the night while she is sleeping . Simple tasks, like holding a cup or stepping off a kerb, are extremely challenging and dangerous for her.
Scarlett was born with a stroke, which led to:
- Cerebral palsy (right-sided hemiplegia)
- Progressive foot deformity (pain & instability)
- Drug-resistant epilepsy (medications no longer work)
- Autism with severe emotional/behavioural dysregulation
- Moderate learning disability & communication difficulties
- Anxiety & complex sensory needs
- PEG-tube feeding
- Sleep disorder
Upcoming Surgeries: The Urgent Need
1. Brain Surgery — January 2026
Scarlett has drug-resistant epilepsy. After years of seizures, failed medications and neurological assessments, she has been placed at the top of the 4-month surgical waiting list.
The procedure involves disconnecting the left hemisphere of her brain.
This surgery carries significant risks, including the possibility that she may need to relearn basic skills such as walking, feeding, or communicating. A specialist wheelchair will be essential from the first day of recovery, as she may lose mobility and require full postural support to prevent pain, pressure injuries and complications.
2. Orthopaedic Foot Surgery — (2026- Awaiting date)
Scarlett's cerebral palsy has caused a severe, worsening deformity in her right foot. She is now forced to walk on the side of her foot, which causes constant pain and major balance issues. Simple things like stepping into a car can be agony. Her surgeon has confirmed she needs corrective surgery.
Why £12,000 is Essential for Recovery
1. Medical & Mobility Needs (The Immediate Priority)
A Safe Specialist Wheelchair (£3,000–£5,000)
NON- NEGOTIABLE
Scarlett’s current NHS wheelchair is only a basic transit chair. It is unsafe due to:
• lack of spinal and pelvic stability
• sling seating that worsens her foot and posture deformities
• no adequate head, neck or trunk support
• increased risk during seizures
• lack of foot positioning options
A specialist wheelchair will provide:
• moulded, rigid seating for spinal and pelvic alignment
• adjustable growth features
• lateral and head supports
• tilt-in-space for pressure relief and safe feeding
• safety during seizures
• proper postural support during long periods of immobility
The NHS can contribute around £400, leaving a large gap that we must meet privately.
2. Essential Therapies and Recovery Supplies
Scarlett will need intensive post-operative therapy to regain as much function as possible:
• Physiotherapy
• Occupational therapy
• Speech & language input
• Hydrotherapy
• Specialist sensory equipment
• Travel to hospitals and therapy centres
3. Basic Living Support During Full-Time Care
I currently have no financial support and will be unable to work while caring for Scarlett . Your help will keep our family stable:
- Rent, bills, and essentials while I’m unable to work.
- Transport & hospital-travel cost .
- Keeping the home calm and stable for Scarlett and her three younger siblings.
Scarlett’s Little Wish: Joy and Freedom
More than anything, Scarlett dreams of riding a bike like her brothers and sister.
Because of her challenges, she cannot balance or pedal safely. An adaptive special needs bike (costing £3,000–£8,000) would finally give her:
- Independence, Joy, and Freedom
- A chance to join her siblings outdoors
- phy Exercise
- Emotional wellbeing
We would only make this dream a reality if, and when, all of Scarlett's essential medical and mobility needs are fully covered by this fundraiser.
(Scarlett experiencing the joy of a specialized adaptive bike (a loan bike from a local center).
Thank You
Thank you for reading Scarlett's story and for caring. Your support will help her through the biggest medical challenges of her life, and it means more than words can say.
Every donation, and even every share, makes a difference.
With love and gratitude,
Georgina and Scarlett x
