On Sunday, December 7th, Scarlett was admitted to Health Sciences North in Sudbury. She was unable to empty her bladder, had trouble walking, and was in a lot of pain. She was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition called transverse myelitis. Because of how serious it is, HSN airlifted her to SickKids in Toronto, 4 hours away from home.
Here, she’ll be undergoing PLEX treatments, which will take weeks. There’s a good chance we’ll be here through Christmas. Once she recovers, she may need rehabilitation to relearn how to walk and empty her bladder, and she may need assistive devices. There is also a chance she may not fully recover and could be left with long-term disability.
Scarlett’s father, Shawn, and her three siblings are back home in Sudbury. They would love to be able to come to Toronto and spend Christmas close to her and me. Shawn is a self-employed subcontractor and our only source of income, but he’s struggling to work his usual hours without childcare and with everything going on.
Donations would help with:
• Groceries
• Essential and hygiene items
• Comfortable clothing for Scarlett
• Accommodations so the family can spend the holidays close to her
• Gas and travel costs
• Lost wages
• Christmas gifts we haven’t been able to get
• Rent
• Assistive devices if she needs them
• Everyday expenses while we’re away from home
If you’d like to help with immediate costs, e-transfers can be sent to the email in the images.
Any amount truly helps. Thank you so much for reading and for supporting our family during this unimaginable time.
