Help Scarlett Fight Rare Pediatric Lung Cancer

My 12 year old daughter, Scarlett, has struggled with asthma and breathing issues her whole life. At just 3 years old, she underwent her first lung surgery to remove a tumor from her esophagus. In September 2025, after multiple failed pulmonary function tests, a CT scan revealed a mass on her right pulmonary artery. The following month, Scarlett had her second lung surgery to remove the mass. On November 5, 2025, after waiting anxiously for biopsy results, my husband and I received the call every parent dreads: the mass was malignant. Scarlett was diagnosed with pulmonary mucoepidermoid carcinoma of her right pulmonary artery—a rare and aggressive form of pediatric lung cancer. Since her diagnosis, Scarlett has endured countless scans, office visits, and another bronchoscopy. We hoped that after the removal of the mass, her lung cells would be clear of cancer, but unfortunately, that was not the case. Pulmonary mucoepidermoid cancer, especially in children, is extremely rare. There are fewer than 60 documented cases of this specific type of lung cancer in the world. Because of this, our local hospitals, surgeons, and oncologists do not have the experience or resources to help Scarlett fight this battle. We are now being referred to Cincinnati Children's Hospital, which is recognized as one of the top pediatric lung cancer centers in the country. While we are grateful to have commercial health insurance for Scarlett, the costs associated with her diagnosis—appointments, surgeries, imaging, tests, and now travel—have added up quickly. Both my husband and I have had to miss work to be present for Scarlett, and the financial strain is becoming too much to bear. We have reached a point where we need to ask for help. We know that times are hard for most families right now, but if you can find it in your heart to donate in any capacity or even just share Scarlett's story, we would be so grateful. Your support will help us cover the mounting medical and travel expenses, allowing us to focus on what matters most: Scarlett's health and recovery.
