Introduction:

Howdy! My name is SB, a transgender man (he/him) from Mississippi. I’m reaching out to ask for your help in funding a down payment for my gender-affirming top surgery—a crucial step in my journey to live authentically.

My Story:

I began medically transitioning over two years ago, but the dream of top surgery has been with me for much longer. From a young age, I knew I couldn’t live as a woman. One of my earliest and most vivid memories is from the 4th grade. My older sisters tried to prepare me for the changes my body would go through, but I couldn’t accept it. “You’re lying! I will never grow boobs!” I remember screaming, tears streaming down my face. This was one of my first encounters with gender dysphoria, but certainly not my last.

As a teenager, I fought to hide my developing body. Despite my efforts, my chest continued to grow, and so did my depression. I just wanted the world to see the real me, but it felt impossible when my body didn’t reflect who I truly was.

The Present:

Now, as an adult, I finally have the autonomy to make the changes I’ve longed for. After being on testosterone for over two years, I’m closer than ever to aligning my body with my identity. This year, I was approved for top surgery, and it felt like everything was finally falling into place.

However, my joy was short-lived. In May 2024, I received devastating news—my health insurance will no longer cover transgender-related care for residents in Mississippi. This unexpected change has left me scrambling to cover the cost of surgery that I consider life-saving.

Why I Need Your Help:

I am trying to raise $1500 by October 20 in order to make a down payment and secure my surgery date. This will allow me to set up a payment plan and move forward with the surgery, paying it off over time. Any extra money raised will go directly to the costs of surgery. Without your support, I may lose this opportunity to finally feel at home in my own body.
