My youngest son, Sawyer Rolfs, was riding his bike down Fulton Street, Waupaca, when an unidentified minivan pulled out into him, running him off the road, causing Sawyer to hit a curb. He was ejected off his bike at 25-30 mph directly at a stop sign post head first, ricocheted, and directly hit a telephone pole ribs/arm first. Upon impact, he had many injuries throughout his body causing extreme internal bleeding from broken ribs poking through his lungs and other organs. He was immediately transferred via flight for life helicopter to the intensive care unit in Neenah ThedaCare where they discovered 2 liters of blood inside his lungs along with internal bleeding throughout his stomach and other internal cavities. He broke 8 rib bones and 3 spine vertebrae. He broke the bone of his upper left arm, both bones in the lower section of his left arm, and fractured his left wrist. He also has a laceration on the back of his skull. He endured unrepairable injuries to his kidney and spleen which immediately had to be surgically removed.
