Hi everyone,

Our 20-month-old cat Ziggy went missing on the evening of Wednesday 4th after dinner. We normally shut our cats in overnight, but Ziggy hadn’t come home yet and we knew something wasn’t right.

Ziggy is a white, black and grey boy with a pink nose, a bell on his collar, and pointy ears from his quarter Maine Coon heritage. He’s cautious with strangers and rarely goes far from home.

For nearly 72 hours we searched everywhere — our house and garden, neighbours’ properties, surrounding streets, and the nearby field. We knocked on doors, checked sheds and garages, walked the area with torches, and left food outside hoping he would return.

Late on Saturday afternoon, my girlfriend checked a house a few doors down we’d already knocked on. This time we heard a faint meow from the front garden. Ziggy had been tucked away deep in the plants the whole time, hidden from view.

We were relieved to find him alive, but he couldn’t walk properly and was in obvious pain. X-rays at the emergency vet revealed his pelvis is broken in three places, narrowing the pelvic canal — likely from a high-impact accident.

At first, the injuries sounded extremely serious and euthanasia was discussed because of the severity of the breaks and bruising. We were heartbroken.

However, a specialist reviewed the scans and believes Ziggy has a 70–80% chance of a good recovery if his fractures are repaired surgically. The plan is a CT scan followed by surgery using plates and screws, then six weeks of strict rest to heal.

We only got Ziggy in August last year, shortly after moving into our first home. He has become such a huge part of our lives — curling up on our laps, greeting us with loud meows, and lounging on his cat tree with his legs dangling like he owns the place.

Ziggy also has an older adoptive brother, Walter, who has been unsettled and not himself since Ziggy went missing.

The estimated cost for the CT scan, surgery, implants, hospital care, and initial treatment is around £4,000 (and could rise higher if complications occur). We have already spent over £800 on emergency care.

We are hoping to raise £4,000 to give Ziggy the chance to recover and come home. Any donation, no matter how small, or simply sharing this page would mean the world.

We will post updates on Ziggy’s progress and recovery.

Thank you for helping give Ziggy the chance he deserves.

With gratitude,
George & Ellie
