Yuki is our 5 month old chihuahua, the youngest of our four dogs, and has always been a happy, playful and loving puppy.
Yuki was diagnosed with Parvo virus last weekend. Despite having all of her shots, she sadly, unknowingly came in contact with something that was contagious with the virus. We have no way of knowing exactly when or where she made contact with the virus but she is now giving it all she has to fight through it.
For those unfamiliar with Parvo, it is an illness that is often deadly to puppies. When caught early and given aggressive treatment, puppies CAN make a full recovery, however veterinarians have stressed that there is a 50/50 chance of survival.
Parvo treatment is on average 6-8 days of hospitalization, where puppies must remain to reduce the spread of infection; however, often puppies must stay past the 8th day. If the virus is not gone by the end of treatment the puppy must go through another round which means they can be hospitalized up to two full weeks to fight the virus.
Yuki has been in the care of vets for the past two days. The treatment continues and we know she is a fighter and believe she can push through; however, aggressive, daily treatment comes at a high price.
She is currently hospitalized and getting hundreds of dollars of treatment a day. She is worth every single penny to us, but we fear our pennies will not be enough to cover all of the costs.
Additionally, we are completely disinfecting our entire house to prevent Yuki's brother, Ame' (our other puppy) from becoming ill with the virus as well. This requires an abundance of specific cleaning supplies.
Currently we have spent over $2,200 on hospital visits, treatment and cleaning supplies and the numbers are only getting higher:
Parvo treatment (as of today): $1,670
Cleaning supplies to kill the virus at home: $150
Vet visits: $460
Anticipated Parvo treatment needed: Additional $1750
Our entire family is heartbroken upon learning of Yuki's diagnosis but none of us, including Yuki, have any intention of throwing in the towel. Yuki is as sweet of a puppy as they come, she's our little fighter, who never deserved this to begin with.
We ask that you please open your hearts and help us bring our Yuki home, a happy and healthy puppy! We appreciate any and all donations. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
