Hi, my name is Elishia and I’m fundraising for our beloved cat, Winston. He’s only 1 year old and such a gentle, loving boy. Sadly, on Wednesday 16th July, Winston suddenly became very unwell and was rushed to the vet. He was found to have a urinary blockage, which is a life-threatening condition in male cats.
Winston had to be hospitalised immediately for x-rays, blood tests, and to have a catheter inserted to help him urinate. It was heartbreaking to see him in pain and not eating, so the vets allowed us to bring him home on Thursday to keep him comfortable and encourage him to eat while continuing his medication.
On Friday, his catheter was removed, but by Sunday we were rushing him back to the emergency vets again his bladder was full, and he was in distress. He was given diazepam to ease the pain and help him pass urine, but by Monday he was still struggling and had to be admitted again to the pet hospital.
Today (23rd July), Winston is finally coming home but we've been told if this happens again, the only options will be to either proceed with life-saving perineal urethrostomy (PU) surgery, or to make the devastating decision to put him to sleep. We don’t want to give up on Winston. He’s still so young and has so much love and life left in him.
The cost for this surgery with a specialist is around £3,500, but thankfully our vet has a surgeon that is willing to do this procedure at a reduced cost of £1,559. We are incredibly grateful for this but even with pet insurance, we are struggling.
Our insurance covers up to £2,000 per condition, and we've already used l the full amount of that on Winston’s emergency care so far. We asked about paying in instalments, but the vet needs 70% of the cost upfront, with the rest paid through a payment plan.
Winston is part of our family. Out Daughter is heartbroken, and even our kitten Minnie is missing him and wandering the house looking for him. We want to do everything we can to give Winston a chance at a full, happy life but we can’t do it without help.
If you're able to donate even a small amount it would mean the world to us. Every penny brings us closer to getting Winston the surgery he needs and avoiding the worst-case scenario.
Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and supporting Winston.
