Hi, my name is Pamela Adams, and I am reaching out to ensure the legacy of a local legend and pioneer continues well beyond his passing. As many of you have heard, my brother-in-law, Wesley Whitmore—the owner of Wes’s BBQ, the oldest African-American owned business in Fayetteville and likely in Northwest Arkansas—passed away earlier this month. His immediate family has made it clear that they would like to continue his legacy and keep his business open. However, due to his prolonged illness, they are now facing many bills. This fund is being set up to ensure the survival of Wes’s BBQ by helping his wife, and my sister, Margie Whitmore, so she doesn’t have to choose between keeping Wes’s BBQ open or paying mounting bills. I am personally managing the transfer of funds to Margie to help keep one of Fayetteville’s oldest restaurants around for years to come.
Although Wes had been battling heart disease for quite some time, his death still came as a shock. For anyone who knew Wes, he was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. He was the kind of person who fed anyone who needed a meal, whether they had money to pay or not. In fact, he served as a father figure for my daughter, who is his niece. In his last few days, he expressed his strong desire that his restaurant be kept open after his death, as it means so much to the community. It frustrated him to see so many other great restaurants that had been around for years close their doors. That’s why I believe it’s important for the community to come together to ensure his wish becomes a reality, and Wes’s BBQ doesn’t have to close its doors. Let’s honor Wes one last time by taking care of the place and people he loved most and poured his heart into for over 40 years—Wes’s BBQ and his lovely family.
We are aiming to raise as much as possible to cover as many months of expenses for Wes’s BBQ as we can. These funds will ensure Margie can focus on personal bills and grieving, without the threat of possibly having to close the doors on Wes’s beloved BBQ. Any amount donated will go directly to Margie Whitmore to help with the restaurant, and we are incredibly grateful for your support.
