Help Save Wes--Our Sweet Stray Cat Hit by a Car

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Gia. I’m a high school student who, along with my family and a few amazing neighbors, have been caring for a colony of stray cats in our neighborhood. Every day, we feed about 20 of them—they’ve become like family. These cats may not have homes, but they are very deeply loved.

We’ve worked hard to get many of them neutered and spayed using money we’ve already raised, hoping to give them healthier, safer lives. But this morning, something heartbreaking happened. One of our regular cats, a sweet boy we call Wes, was hit by a car. A neighbor found him barely alive and immediately contacted my mom, knowing how much we care about these cats.

Wes is fighting to survive, and he needs urgent medical care. We’re doing everything we can, but the vet bills are overwhelming. Any amount you can give will go directly toward Wes’s treatment and recovery. He’s not just “a stray”; he’s part of our community and deserves a second chance.

Thank you for your kindness and support.

**UPDATE 4/21/25
After further examination, tests, and X-rays by Beacon Veterinary Specialists, we were given the details of Wes' injuries:
  • blunt trauma to the head
  • broken jaw and teeth
  • broken hip
  • broken leg
Due to the medical bills exceeding $15k (in addition to the initial payment of over 6K), they suggested that we take him to UC Davis Veterinary Hospital to lower the cost to 8k. We were ready to take him, but when we went to pick him up, the doctor notified us that they had found another fracture, which would require surgery as well. The vet shared concerns about the quality of life he would have if we continued the treatment. She said that given all the issues they found, his recovery would be long and painful. Even if we were willing to pay whatever it takes, having him endure further trauma would be cruel. The vet explained that the most humane thing to do would be to euthanize him. It would be selfish to prolong his misery for many months to come, and we didn't even know if he would ever be able to live a quality life. This was the most painful decision we have ever had to make :(
We sat with him, cried, pet him, hugged him, kissed him, and let him lay in peace forever. RIP, sweet Wes, we will miss you forever!
Thanks to all of you who helped make his end of life less painful. He died with dignity, loved by everyone around him, not in the streets where he was left to die by a heartless driver.

For complete transparency, we are attaching the Vet bills that were incurred before he passed away. Thank you all for your generosity!
