My name is Abdelghani Hammoud, founder of WeBerber, a small family project dedicated to preserving Moroccan craftsmanship and supporting rural women weavers.

For years, we’ve worked with artisans in the Middle Atlas to hand-make rugs using natural wool, traditional techniques, and fair-trade values.

But today, our project is at risk of collapsing.

What Happened?

In November, while traveling to Germany to participate in an exhibition, we faced a devastating and unexpected event:

German customs (Zoll) confiscated all our merchandise.

Even though:

We had an MRN and valid documents from the transport company,

We already passed Spanish customs without being asked to pay anything,

We were told everything was fine…

German customs decided that the import process was incomplete and seized all the rugs, opening a case and demanding high penalties.

For a small artisan project like ours, this was a catastrophic financial hit.

The Real Impact

This seizure didn’t just affect me.

It affected:

Women artisans in rural Morocco whose work was in those rugs

Their families, who depend on weaving income

Our ability to continue producing fair-trade Moroccan crafts

Our entire project’s stability

Months of work — handmade with love — were taken away in minutes.

A Small Business Fighting to Survive

WeBerber is not a big company.

We don’t have investors.

We are simply a group of artisans and a young entrepreneur trying to share Moroccan heritage with the world.

This incident destroyed:

Our exhibition stock

Our cashflow

Our ability to pay upcoming production

And now we face customs penalties and legal fees

Without help, WeBerber might not survive.
