Kanahau Needs Your Help to Continue Protecting Utila’s Wildlife

Kanahau is at a critical point, and we need your support!

Since 2012 Kanahau has worked to protect the unique wildlife and habitats of Utila, Honduras. As a local conservation NGO, we manage protected areas, provide environmental education, conduct vital wildlife research, and inspire the next generation of Honduran conservationists.

Today, our work is at risk.

Unlike many organizations, Kanahau receives no government funding. Every conservation project, educational program, wildlife survey, and day that our museum remains open is made possible entirely through donations, grants, and ecotourism.

Your gift can make an immediate, tangible difference. For example:

* $400 will pay for rent for the museum for 1 month

* $20 pays for electric for the museum for 2 days

* $250 pays for an iguana survey in the Turtle harbor Wildlife refuge

* $300 enables us to make conservation t-shirts to sell

* $500 provides a stipend for a student for 1 month

* $1000 provides salary for a staff member for 1 month

* $45 buys 1 raccoon trap

Without immediate financial support, we risk having to reduce or suspend essential conservation programs that protect some of Honduras’ most threatened species.

Your donation also helps fund:

* New museum exhibits and educational displays

* Environmental education programs for all seven schools on Utila

* Boat fuel and captain wages for surveys of the Critically Endangered Utila Spiny-tailed Iguana (“The Swamper”), crocodiles, freshwater turtles, and other native wildlife

* Management of the Turtle Harbour Wildlife Refuge

* The annual Save the Swamper Festival

* Our invasive raccoon eradication project to protect native wildlife
