Hi,
My name is Tinkerbell, and right now I'm really sick and need your help to get better. I didn't have the best start in life. Living as a stray on the mean streets of LA is very tough--especially when you're tiny and all alone. The pads of my feet were all worn down, and I was severely underweight. My spirit was suffering, too.
But then something truly wonderful happened! A really nice couple adopted me and for the first time in my life I had a place to call my home. It was heaven. But then my new mom and dad took me to get spayed. It was supposed to be a routine surgery, and I was going to be home in no time, but then I hemorrhaged during surgery and things went from bad to worse. I was resuscitated several times and given oxygen. It was really scary. The doctors say I have something called Canine immune mediated thrombocytopenia (ITP).
It's a long name but it basically means my immune system attacks my platelets – the cells responsible for clotting the blood. Even though I'm in critical condition, there is a treatment for this horrible very bad disease. I need to have several transfusions with human hemoglobin followed by several months of drug treatment in order to have a chance to survive.
A lot of people might have given up on me, but my mom and dad never will! Even though I haven't been with them very long, they love me very much, and believe I deserve every chance to live the life I deserve after such a rough start. (I love them very much too and even wagged my tail when I saw my mom in the ICU with my oxygen mask on.) My mom sold her jewelry and they've used their savings to pay for my emergency treatment so far. But, it's still not enough. (Apparently, hemoglobin is very expensive.)
So, if you could donate any amount you could to help my mom and dad pay for the treatment I desperately need to save my life, I would be forever grateful. I may be tiny and really really sick, but I'm a fighter and desperately want to get better and live a great life with the family I waited so long for!
