A dog in desperate need showed up on my porch, clearly in pain and suffering. I could immediately tell something was very wrong — he has a large, swollen mass near his back end, and he’s leaking stool without control. After doing research and consulting others, it appears he has a perineal hernia — a serious and potentially life-threatening condition that requires emergency surgery.

Despite everything, he’s still eating, walking, and gently wagging his tail. He’s fighting, and I want to fight for him too.

He likely needs:

• Diagnostic imaging (to confirm the hernia and check for organ involvement)

• Life-saving surgery to repair the hernia

• Neuter surgery (to help prevent recurrence)

• Medications, wound care, and follow-up vet visits

I’m doing everything I can to care for him and keep him comfortable until he can be seen, but the cost of his care is more than I can afford on my own. Vet estimates in my area range from $2,000 to over $5,000, depending on the severity and whether internal organs are trapped.
