We are the team the brings you local reporting in The Woodstock Independent.
The U.S. is losing newspapers at a rate of two newspapers per week; don’t let The Woodstock Independent become one of them.
For 38 years, The Woodstock Independent has been the no. 1 source for authoritative news and information in Woodstock, Bull Valley, Wonder Lake, and surrounding areas.
Print and postage costs have soared, other expenses have risen with inflation across the country, and unforeseen circumstances have put The Woodstock Independent in a dire/perilous financial situation.
The Woodstock Independent knows how the community has rallied around local businesses – as we look through our nearly four decades of hard copies of our newspaper, what stands out is how Woodstock embraces local businesses, organizations and families in need. We have reported on community members rallying to help victims of fires, local organizations being flooded with donations for the unhoused, and the community wrapping their arms around local businesses, organizations or families in need of financial support.
In this economy, we know how just one unforeseen circumstance can single-handedly force a closure.
The Woodstock Independent is not immune.
We are in danger of closing our doors forever.
As we look at the stories we have written about hope, resilience, and the power of community, we are hoping Woodstock will once again rise to the occasion to help save a local business.
Our Go Fund Me account has been set up to combat a faster-than-expected rise in operating costs. Our current subscriber base and advertising revenue are no longer enough to cover the cost of producing the paper each week. This money would be a lifeline for us to continue to deliver the news you’ve come to expect from us, while we get back on our feet financially. As we chart a new path forward, we promise to find the best way for you to receive the news you want, the way you want it, when you want it.
The Woodstock Independent needs to meet or exceed a goal of $50,000 to keep our doors open in 2026.
While any dollar amount helps, we are currently running a Partners program for larger donors. If you donate at any of these levels, your name will be added to our list of those who want readers to know you value local news.
