She survived long enough to be found. Now she needs a blood transfusion and a 24-hour emergency hospital to survive.
On June 3, 2026, I found a young female dog by the river near my property in absolutely heartbreaking condition. She is a larger-framed young dog, but she only weighed about 25 pounds when I found her. She was skin and bones, her gums were white, and she was so weak she could barely walk without falling.
This was not just a skinny stray who needed a good meal. Her body was shutting down.
I was out hiking with some of the dogs when I found her. I didn’t have cell service, I was far enough out that I couldn’t just call someone, and I have a medical condition that can make me faint. But I could not leave her there. I couldn’t walk away and just hope she would still be alive when I came back.
So I carried her out, taking breaks the whole way, because she did not have the strength to make it on her own.
And somehow, even as bad as she feels, she is soooo sweet. She barely has the strength to stand, but she still wags her tail. She looks at you like she is just grateful someone finally stopped.
When I got her home, I gave her small amounts of food and water. She has a very healthy appetite, which honestly made me so happy to see, but we have to take it slow because refeeding syndrome is a real risk when a dog is this starved. You cannot just give them a giant meal and hope for the best, even when every part of you wants to.
I also gave her the little bit of dewormer I had left. It definitely was not enough for a dog her size, but it was all I had in that moment. After that, she passed stool full of worms and vegetation. That alone tells you how hard her body has been fighting to survive with basically nothing.
My vet confirmed that she is severely anemic and needs to go to a bigger emergency hospital for a blood transfusion and intensive care. Her current vet bill is already paid. This fundraiser is for what she needs now: the emergency hospital, blood transfusion, hospitalization, monitoring, medications, fluids, testing, and whatever else they have to do to keep her alive.
The emergency hospital is a minimum of $2,000 per night, and that does not include the transfusion or anything extra they may need to do once she gets there. Based on how severe her condition is, we are preparing for around 5–7 days of treatment. That means the hospital stay alone could be around $10,000–$14,000 before the blood transfusion and everything else is added.
The goal is to get her to the 24-hour emergency hospital so she can get the transfusion and critical care she needs, then hopefully, once she is stable enough, she can go back to my regular vet, who is more affordable and has already been amazing with her.
I help dogs as much as I possibly can, but I cannot cover this alone. I DoorDash and I’m a self-published author on Amazon Kindle, so I hustle however I can to keep bills paid and the dogs fed, but I’m already stretched thin. I found her by chance, but now that she is here, I want to give her every chance I can.
Also, please be kind to my vet and their staff. They have been amazing to us. They did not do this to her. They are helping her. I know people are angry and heartbroken seeing what she has been through, but please do not call, harass, attack, or go after the people trying to save her.
Any donation helps. Sharing helps. Even commenting helps keep her story seen. She survived long enough to be found, and now I’m trying to make sure she gets the chance to actually live.
