Help Save The Seahorse – Our Electricity Crisis
Our family-run pub has been disconnected from its electricity supply following a disputed bill of approximately £30,000. We're fighting to get the situation resolved, but we need your help.
The Seahorse isn't just a business to us. It's our livelihood, our team's workplace and a place where families, friends and our local community come together.
On 8th October 2026, our electricity supply was disconnected.
In July, we received an electricity bill of approximately £27,000, which we disputed because we believed we were incorrectly being charged out-of-contract rates.
Following changes to our electricity accounts, we had been unable to access the information we needed to properly investigate the charges. Incredibly, a welcome email originally dating back to May 2025 was only sent to us on the day of disconnection.
Our supplier has now acknowledged that we were right about the contract issue. However, we have since been presented with a bill of approximately £30,000, and we have not yet been told what the corrected amount should be.
Despite this, we've been told the full amount must be paid before our electricity will be reconnected.
We are now fighting to keep The Seahorse open.
Behind the scenes, our team has been working incredibly hard to find ways to continue serving our customers. We've managed to keep some services operating, including our outside food truck, but we cannot run a pub properly without electricity.
We've invested so much time, money and hard work into making The Seahorse a welcoming place for our community. The thought of losing it over a bill that hasn't even been properly resolved is heartbreaking.
Why we're asking for £30,000
This is the approximate amount our electricity supplier is currently demanding.
We want to be completely transparent: we are disputing the bill, and the final amount owed has not been confirmed.
Every donation will be reserved for resolving the electricity account and restoring our electricity supply.
We will continue challenging the charges and sharing updates. If the corrected amount is lower than the money raised, we will explain the position and seek to return any surplus donations where possible, subject to the fundraising platform's processes.
We are not asking our community to take responsibility for our business. We're asking for help during an extraordinary situation while we fight for a fair resolution.
How you can help

We know times are difficult for everyone, and asking for help like this isn't easy.
But we're not ready to give up on The Seahorse.
From our family and our incredible team, thank you for every donation, share and message of support.
Help us keep The Seahorse alive.
