Help Save the Puerto Rican Strays

Donation protected

As many of you know, Puerto Rico was devastated after Hurricane Maria. My home, my friends, and my way of life, completely thrown out the window. Being ripped away from everything I knew was for sure the most heart-wrenching experience I've ever had to endure.

But enough about me. Let's talk about what brought most of you here- the dogs, and how today you can help save one's life.

Before disaster struck on the island, the stray dog problem was already out of hand. Now, it's overwhelming. The organization PAW, Palmas Animal Welfare, is a nonprofit organization of neighbors who work with local rescues on the final adoption process to states. Their mission is to get as many strays off the streets as they can. Spending last summer volunteering for this group, I felt the best I ever had. With this group, we bathed, vaccinated, fostered, and eventually found these dogs a home. Having the opportunity to see this process from start to finish changed me in ways I don't have the words to explain.

Sadly, as I mentioned before, I was forced to leave, but not without a piece of PAW with me.

This is my puppy, Sprinkles. As you can clearly see, she is an absolute ball of sunshine. She is the happiest little thing (and maybe a little chubby, but we love her anyways). Without Palmas Animal Welfare, I would have never had this joy in my life. And if we had not been there when we were to give this puppy a home, the sad truth is she most likely would have died.

This organization has worked wonders, and everyone in Palmas can attest to this. But they can't do it alone...

With the tremendous flow of people evacuating the island, funding and the number of volunteers are at an all time low. Thousands of dollars is being taken on as debt to help these adorable pets. The costs add up, for things like vetting, fostering, spray/neuter, and many times flights and travel crates for when rescues are full. But, there's a way you can help. Even the smallest donation could change the lives of these dogs, for the better.

Think about it this way. If everyone who read this donated $5, our goal would be met in one week, tops. Any way you can help the cause will be greatly appreciated. A huge thank you from me, PAW, and the puppies you're helping save in advance!
