Help Save the Manitouwadge Museum

As many of you are already aware, the Manitouwadge Museum is facing a financial crisis related to back taxes of $70,000.00. After pursuing this matter for over two years we are faced with foreclosure and the sale of our building.
We are asking for assistance in meeting this tax burden. All contributions are greatly appreciated. - Suzanne

If everyone donated even 20.00 per family, with 800 families we would have $16,000.00 which would put a big dent in our debt. Once our goal here is met , we can handle the yearly taxes.
Threads has supported the Museum expenses for all the years it has been in the old church building. We thought we were tax exempt as we are a museum but MPAC will not list us under code 730, which would be exempt, as they do not consider us a Museum. We were in the building for 10 years before we started getting charged for taxes. We were stunned so we started trying to get it all in sight, and in the right perspective. Our status moved from residential to commercial back to residential and so forth. The problem we believe is with MPAC in Thunder Bay. Our present council is trying to help, they are not against us . The story is long and complicated so please do not be so quick to make judgments or decisions here on the Museum's behalf.
There is still a lot of pioneers in this town that have lived here since the fifties. This is our history, The history of Manitouwadge; the building is a historical building, built in 1959; The community on the whole has something to say in whether it should stay open or not. Let's come together as the outstanding community we are and help save our towns history and museum!! - Gail
