Mandeans

Mandaeism is the oldest and only surviving Gnostic religion in the world. An Ethnoreligious group practicing Mandeanism. Which is a small ancient religion with roots in Israel/Palestine area.

They immigrated from there to south Mesopotamia in the first century due to persecution [1 ] .

The only surviving Gnostic religion believes in light and dark, and baptism. One of the most influential teachers of the religion is John Baptist

Mandaeans have long been hidden to banks

of rivers in south of Iraq. They have been also

mentioned in the Quran as the Baptists, and

ignored for being peaceful.

That have changed after the war in Iraq. Due

to persecution by extreme groups. The

population in Iraq went from 60,000-70,000

down to 5,000[2 ].

The biggest group in the US is about 2500 and

mostly reside in central Massachusetts[3 ].

Mandaeans are a closed off religion,

meaning no one can convert into the

religion, only out.

That means a solid community is essential to

the continuity of the culture and history

There are 2,500 members in Worcester, MA, the most in the U.S., yet we didn't have a place of worship to bring everyone together and build a new home for Mandeans in the US. We have emerged as a religious community, headquartered in Worcester, to bring our members together. We bring people together by getting a place of worship.
