Hi! I live just west of Tulsa, out in the country. The road I live on is frequently used for dumping dogs. People no longer want their pets and just dump them. It's abhorrent and ridiculously common. Two such dogs showed up on our property around Christmas 2024. We started putting out food and left blankets out for them. We've named them Ginger and Nutmeg. I believe they're pit bull mixes. Both are very sweet and fairly well behaved. We just got Nutmeg spayed and, unfortunately, found out she has heartworms. That's devastating news, compounded by the likelihood that Ginger does, too. Treatment for hearts will run us $1,000/dog. Money we just don't have.
