My name is Rachel and my life was changed forever when my husband died 18 months ago. I am the sole financial supporter of our 10 beautiful rescued cats still living in France. I am no longer in a position to pay for their food, vet bills and upkeep. They are now in serious danger of being sent to the local Mairie/Mayor, who by law, has to send them to an animal pound where they will all almost certainly be euthanised after 8 weeks. Urgent help is needed to save them.
We found six cats abandoned in our barns when we moved to France in 2020. Three of them were pregnant and had beautiful kittens, most of which we found good homes for. The rest stayed with us. I had to move back to the UK last year, so a kind friend is providing a safe home for them with a lovely garden and field to roam in, but he has his own family to support.
I have been trying for over a year to find them new homes but have found it impossible. No one wants adult cats. They have been together all their lives as a family unit. At a pound they will be totally stressed by being separated in the weeks before being euthanised. The alternative is to abandon them. This is illegal, and results in starvation and risk of serious injury, both leading to slow, painful death. Huge numbers of cats are still abandoned in France each year. There are minimal charities for unwanted animals, and they are always full with long waiting lists.
These beautiful little cats meant the world to my husband and to me. They loved and looked after me after my husband died. Without them I would not have survived. It will totally break my heart if these innocent and loving little cats have to die too.
The situation is now urgent. Any donation, no matter how small, will be gratefully received to help these wonderful little cats survive.
