Why am I raising funds on behalf of Gloria T. (Uganda)?

Luck brought myself to Belgium where I built up a different life. The contrast of where life took me could not be harder compared to what meanwhile happened in Uganda to my dearest friend.

Gloria ended up struggling in Rubirizi (Uganda), as a single mother (39) with two boys (11 and 4). But the true reason you are reading this, is also as urgent: Gloria got diagnosed with a fastly developing rectal tumor which requires surgery before it reduces the bowel opening to zero. In Uganda continue living for long with a stoma is virtually impossible due to the costs, the scarcity of products and the high risk of infections.

The latter circumstance turns Gloria’s – also extremely painful - condition into a death sentence. Her passing would on top leave her two boys behind as orphans.

How I am collecting funds

Unfortunately, GoFundMe does not currently send funds directly to Uganda. This means that I will collect all donations into my verified Belgian bank account, and then swift-transfer the total amount securely to my local bank account in Uganda. By my consent, Gloria can locally withdraw the required funds to pay for all expert medical doctors and subsequent expert care.

How your donation will rescue Gloria

In most dramatic situations is often a silver line, if you see it. The price winning colorectal surgeon, Dr. Hyukjun Chung is meanwhile based in Uganda, pioneering and training laparoscopic surgery in the country. He is organized and remains standby with his team as we speak to work on Gloria, committed to save her life.

Every euro donated to Gloria, will go directly towards her (estimates in euro)

• Medical imaging (€ 500)

• Pre-operative examinations (€ 500)

• Laparoscopic or open surgery (€ 4000)

• Post-operative care (€ 500)

• Healing period of probably 3 months with stoma-care (€ 2000)

• Indirect expenses (transports, hospital staying) (€ 1500)

• Overhead (the unforeseen costs) 5% grand total = (€ 450)

The estimated GoFundMe target hence reads € 9450

Both Gloria’s boys will meanwhile be taken care of by some family members.

Transparency first

I am committed to complete transparency. Because speed matters, even before my GoFundMe reaches its target of (€ 9450) I will

• write at each rounded milestone a concise update

• include all related receipts and invoices

• send photos or videos showing the use of your donations

Also, donors can request additional confirmation at any time. Your generosity will directly save a single mother’s life in Uganda and indirectly secure two more lives. Because every donation — big or small — brings us closer to Gloria’s rescue, transparency is first.

In case of an unfortunate deceasing of Gloria, the raised total fund shall be re-destined as school fees for both her two sons, monitored by me and reported as well over the years, here at GoFundMe.
