Help save the life of our rescue horse
Hi I'm Dani. My family and I have a small rescue/sanctuary in Mifflin County. We care for about 100 animals daily and are self funded. Our sweet gelding is extremely sick with colic and he requires hospitalation as he is not responding to treatment at home. He was rescued from an auction 2 years ago. He has overcome cancer in his eye and is the heart of our pasture of bachelors . We are self funded. No grants, no government money. Simply a family who has a bit of land, been blessed in life and a deep love for animals. Gorm's at home care has drained our vet fund reserve and he is declining. He has colic; or more specifically a displacement causing colic. His colon has shifted and is stuck over his spleen. That's in layman's terms. It has a much larger official name in vet speak. He has been treated twice as an emergency over the holiday weekend. Don't these things always happen in the middle of the night on a holiday or is that just me? At this point his vet wants to have him transported to the Equine Clinic and treated intensely. Just 24 hours of IV fluids, IV antibiotics, blood work and a colic workup is estimated at $2000. That is one day. We work hard and we are blessed but this is beyond the budget of our little rescue. Yes Gormagon is an older guy at 22. Yes he has some arthritis and is partially blind in his right eye. No he isn't a show horse. Or a purebred. He isn't considered hi value in our society. But here he is priceless. He is a sweet, loving guy who isn't ready to say goodbye to the good life that he finally is living. So in a last ditch attempt we are turning to our fellow animal lovers to try to save him and raise enough funds for a few days of treatment in the hopes that it will work. We are hoping surgery will not be needed. If you have been blessed in this life with a little extra we'd be eternally grateful for a small donation. Gormagon would even be happy to meet you when he's back to his old, happy, gentle self and let you admire him as the royal being he is. Thank you for reading this and in advance for any help be it a donation or simply sharing our plea. May you be blessed always. Sincerely all of us at The Farm of Misfit Critters
