The Jungle of Niles is more than just a plant store. It is a magical jungle that warms hearts, lifts spirits, and creates memories that last a lifetime.

For so many, it has been a place of exploration and comfort. From hand feeding over 100 rescued birds, hearing Terry the cockatiel sing and Calypso the sun conure dance, to meeting Buddy and Zoraida, our gentle giant tortoises, the bunnies, Guinea pigs, koi fish, turtles, and more. Every animal here is a rescue, never for sale, and here only to bring joy, education, and connection. The animals of the Jungle are loved like pets of our own.

The Jungle is also home to 40,000+ plants in all sizes, with 300+ varieties, drawing visitors from across the region. There’s never been an admission fee. For years, we have simply relied on plant purchases and small donations to care for the animals and keep this special place alive.

Beyond plants and animals, the Jungle of Niles has been a place of inclusion and happiness. We’ve hosted hundreds of children’s birthday parties, welcomes physically challenged and disables visitors, elderly groups, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, summer camps, and families seeking a safe, joyful space where everyone feels welcome. For many children and seniors, this magical jungle has been their favorite place to smile, explore, and feel at peace.

The magic of the Jungle is pulled off by a small business; this is not a large corporation. We have 15 hard-working, conscientious employees that are required to follow all the same procedures as if we were Lincoln Park or Brookfield Zoo without the funding, or the budget of these large entities.

Now we urgently need help.

Our sub-landlord will not extend our lease. Moving the Jungle of Niles would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and with rising rent, veterinary care, insurance, and operating expenses, we cannot relocate or survive without the support of our community.

With 1,800+ five-star reviews, viral videos, and recognition as a Chicago hidden gem, the Jungle of Niles has touched countless lives. We don’t want it to become just a distant memory from the past.
