Help save the Historic Bagdad Cafe on Route 66

Hello,

My name is Andrea Pruett. I am 83 years old and have been the proud owner of the Bagdad Cafe for almost 30 years.

As some of you might know, it was once the famous location of the movie "Bagdad Cafe," directed by Percy Adlon. Thanks to its notoriety, every day I have the joy of meeting people from all around the world, all coming to see this special place in the desert.

This Cafe is much more than a business to me; my husband bought it for me shortly before he passed away. This Cafe has become my home and the only thing I have.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, I lost the business from all my international travelers, which accounts for about 90% of it, and had to close my doors for the first time.

It was a really hard time for me, and I am falling behind. I have reopened the Cafe so that you can come inside and take photos, but we cannot serve food as we used to and run business as usual. We have holes in the ceilings, and with the heavy rains from the past year, many leaks. It has come to a point where the Cafe gets flooded every time it rains, and the memorabilia left by so many of you gets damaged.

Many things need to be repaired in order for the Bagdad Cafe to get back to how it was. My only wish is to welcome my traveler friends and the desert community in good conditions.

I need your help to keep it going. With your donations, we will repair the roof and ceiling, fix our kitchen, and order new merchandise that we have run out of to sell.

If you are able to give something, anything helps. Many businesses along Route 66 have disappeared over the years. I do not want the Bagdad Cafe to be one of them. We all get old, I know I am...but some places deserve to resist the test of time. This Cafe deserves to stay as one of our historic American landmarks. A place where people from all around the world can count on to always be there for them, just like it was for me.
