HELP SAVE THE GORE CREEK VALLEY FROM DEVELOPMENT

Donation protected
The Gore Creek Valley is a tributary of the Lane Cove River which is the heartbeat of Lane Cove. It is a pristine green corridor that has survived urbanisation but not for long. We are petitioning to the Lane Cove Council, Pathways and the State Government to stop the destruction of the environment and local amenities through the development of the recreational playing fields at 266 Longueville Road and the construction of a multi storey sports facility on the golf course which is on the banks of the Gore Creek Valley. The Gore Creek Valley is a special part of Lane Cove and needs protecting. Many animals, including powerful owls and rare fungi that only lives in the Gore Creek Valley due to specific habitat features may go extinct if the development of the Valley goes ahead. We need to stop the destruction of the Gore Creek valley to save it for us to use now and for our children to use in the future. We, the residents, object to these developments seek your support through donations to help us

We are seeking donations to fund the work we are doing to protect the parklands, bushland and serenity of the Gore Creek Valley. Sadly the fight is not over to save the golf course parklands which at a cost to the community of over $75 million dollars the valley will be damaged https://ecouncil.lanecove.nsw.gov.au/TRIM/documents_TE/174388662/TRIM_Lane%20Cove%20Sport%20and%20Recreation%20Plans%20with%20Areas%2030.09.22%20for%20%20Community%20Consultation_1660533.PDF and the land at 266 Longueville Road which belongs to the community but has been leased to developers Pathways to build apartments (https://www.smh.com.au/national/north-shore-council-slammed-for-selling-off-green-space-for-seniors-apartments-20220525-p5ao9n.html)

In 2021, members of the community focussed on objecting to and fighting against 3 developments that affected the Gore Creek Valley:

266 Longueville Road;
180 River Road (Sports Facility at Golf Course site);
Bob Campbell Oval- synthetic turf.
Through the sheer determination of the community led by the community group ‘Natural Grass for Bob Campbell Oval’ the push by the Council to install a plastic pitch at BCO failed and another natural solution is underway.

However, 266 Longueville Road and 180 River Road (golf course) remain without a solution and the two sites are on track to be developed or are pending approval. Therefore, a group of residents have decided to form the Gore Creek Valley Action Group Inc to work towards a solution whether through the court of public opinion, political lobbying or the courts of NSW to fight against these two developments and protect the environment (removal of 160 trees total), biodiversity and cultural heritage of the Gore Creek Valley. The Golf Club will be closed for 3 years during construction of the facility with a loss to the community of golf, the social network and current buzzing arts scene. It is unlikely that the public will have access to the golf course parklands also.

To keep up the pressure on the Council and government, we will need people to help us who are passionate about saving the Gore Creek Valley from development. It will require funding to obtain expert reports, legal advice and build up a public awareness through websites, social media, merchandise to fight the Lane Cove Council and NSW Government to save the valley before it is too late. We are running out of time and we need your help through donations.

The Gore Creek Valley Action Group Inc in conjunction with other community associations have been communicating with the Mayor and Councillors on this and other issues affecting the Gore Creek Valley and further meetings are planned in the near future. We will be notifying all members and residents of upcoming community meetings as we need as many people there to show the Council that they cannot ignore the people and simply push ahead with their development agenda by leasing public recreation land for 99 years to developers to build apartments at 266 Longueville Road and other massive projects that benefit only a small part of the community at such a high cost to the whole of the community and in the process hundreds of trees, social networks, playing fields and biodiversity will be destroyed.

We thank you for your support.
