The Felix Gillet Institute is experiencing very difficult financial times!
The FGI continues its important work of discovering, saving, evaluating, propagating and disseminating the heirloom fruit and nut plants of the California Gold Rush Era - trees which have survived without human intervention for 100 plus years. These plants are critical in the bridge to climate change adaptability and true sustainability. Despite having been well received by all our past grantors, we have not been awarded any financial support this year and are seriously threatened with the termination of our project.
It is very difficult to ask for your support, but without it we will not be able to finish out the season. We need about $10,000 to get us through the Summer until our nursery season income provides us with a cash flow again. We have thousands of plants happily growing in our nursery, but we don’t have the cash reserves to keep the project going. Your tax-deductible donation, in any amount, will be put to best use to keep our project thriving.
We generate about 30% of our operating income from the sale of plants, which is not enough to maintain or expand our important work. Nursery manager Adam Nuber earns below minimum wage, and volunteers much of his time in an effort to support our project. Amigo does not get paid, volunteering all of his time since 1970. Jenifer has discontinued her minimal, part-time pay. Despite these efforts, without your help, soon the coffers will run dry.
