My name is Shaneka, my twin sister Shameka and I are the founders of the Colossal Museum, Houston’s first Women Black Owned Interactive Art Museum featuring gigantic sculptures, a kids play area, ice cream/slushy shop, adult bar and an an event venue.

Colossal was built on purpose, our passion for family, art, and community. Our goal was to redefine what a museum could be, not just a place to look at art, but to interact with it, touch it, and feel it.

The heart of Colossal is our mission and purpose of inclusion and accessibility for all. Our museum is designed with vibrant colors, multi-sensory elements, gigantic sculptures, and intentional accessibility.

We created an environment where children, adults, and families whether, special needs, sensory sensitivities, mobility challenges, or visual impairments can enjoy, fully participate, feel celebrated and be a part of the art.

This year has been full of ups and downs, mainly downs, financially. We opened our dream business with no investors, no business bank loans, no financial help, just our life savings, working two jobs to save money and liquidating personal assets to invest in our business.

We also suffered a significant loss of $75,000 last year, which set us back for marketing and outreach. We have not been able to grow and sustain the business or market it to get the word out.

We are now facing a Financial Crisis; both of our homes are in foreclosure, we are in a deep deficit on our lease obligations at the museum and are facing termination of lease if arrearages are not met in 30 days, we are getting evicted from our warehouse storage space for non payment, and our cars are about to be repossessed after pawning the titles to pay business expenses.

We Urgently Need Assistance with saving our business, homes, cars and storage.
