For nearly two decades, The Chicken Shack has been more than just a restaurant in Hermosa Beach —it’s been part of the community’s daily life.
Since 2007, this small, family-owned business has served thousands of locals, watched kids grow up, created jobs, and shown up every single day—working long hours, 365 days a year—to serve fresh, comforting meals with care.
Now, through no fault of their own, they are at risk of closing.
Since February 9th, construction by California Water Service on Aviation Blvd—directly in front of the restaurant—has made it extremely difficult for customers to access the business. The project is expected to last through the end of May.
What this means in reality:
• Customers can’t easily reach the restaurant
• Parking is often blocked
• Streets nearby are closed
• Traffic is heavily restricted
Regulars who have supported this business for years are now turning away—not by choice, but because they simply can’t get there.
Inside, conditions have been just as challenging. Dust from construction settles into the space daily. The noise, air quality, and constant disruption make normal operations nearly impossible.
And yet, the bills haven’t stopped.
Rent, utilities, payroll, insurance, and supplies continue to pile up—while sales have dropped dramatically due to limited hours and access. Like many small businesses, there is no safety net.
Efforts to get answers or support have led nowhere, with responsibility being passed between California Water Service, W.A. Rasic Construction, and the City of Hermosa Beach. In the meantime, a local family business is left carrying the burden alone.
This is where the community can step in.
The Chicken Shack has spent years showing up for Hermosa Beach. Now they need the community to show up for them.
If you’ve ever eaten there, worked there, or simply believe in supporting small, family-run businesses—please consider donating.
If you’re unable to give, sharing this campaign can make a real difference. Supporting them through an order also helps keep them going during this incredibly difficult time.
❤️ Let’s come together to make sure The Chicken Shack isn’t lost.
