Help Save the Cats at Mad Catter Studio and Rescue!
Hello friends, animal lovers, and compassionate souls,
My name is Misty Martin, and I independently run the Mad Catter Studio and Rescue. I specialize in caring for misfits and older kitties that are harder to adopt, providing them with love, shelter, and medical care. It’s not easy for me to ask for help as my art workshops normally cover costs, but we are currently experiencing a slow season, and I am struggling with expenses. Now, I am facing an unprecedented crisis and desperately need your help.
Nine years ago, I arrived in San Jose Del Cabo with my four cats. Since then, my family has grown to include 23 rescues, including nine cats from Bud Cravens and eleven from Linda Beals, both of whom passed away within the last couple of years, leaving their cats without homes or caregivers. Additionally, on an almost monthly basis, I find myself facing unexpected situations where people abandon kittens or cats on my doorstep, leaving me to care for them without any financial support. As time has passed, I've been there for some rescues as they crossed the rainbow bridge. Throughout these years, I've also taken in other cats that had nowhere else to go. Over this period, I've personally funded the spaying and neutering of over 130 cats and 11 dogs. Furthermore, I regularly donate to other rescue partners in Los Cabos and assist with cat adoptions and transport to the USA and Canada.
Recently, nine out of the 23 beloved cats at Mad Catter Studio and Rescue tested positive for calicivirus, a highly contagious virus that affects cats. Calicivirus can cause severe respiratory issues, mouth ulcers, joint pain, and in some cases, life-threatening pneumonia. This virus has significantly impacted the health of the cats, leaving them struggling to eat and in constant discomfort.
Despite my best efforts and having all 23 cats vaccinated against calicivirus, this outbreak has still occurred. I have taken every precaution possible to protect the feline family, but sometimes, even the best defenses are not enough. The infected cats require daily medications and bi-weekly vet visits for shots, leading to rapidly rising vet bills that I can no longer manage alone.
As this virus will be with the cats for life, it is with a heavy heart that I must announce I can no longer take in new kitties and will be under permanent quarantine. This decision ensures the safety and well-being of both the current and future feline residents, but it also means that the rescue's capacity to help new cats in need has been severely impacted.
I am reaching out to you, my community, for support. Your generous donations will help cover the following urgent needs:
**Medical Treatments:** Daily medications and bi-weekly vet visits to ensure the cats receive the necessary care to recover.
**Specialized Food:** Many of the cats have lost their appetite due to the virus, and I need to provide them with high-nutrition, easy-to-eat food to help them regain their strength.
**Sanitation Supplies:** To prevent further spread of the virus and protect the other cats, I need additional sanitation supplies and equipment.
Every dollar you contribute goes directly to the care and recovery of the cats. No amount is too small, and every donation makes a difference. If you can't donate, please consider sharing my story with others who might be able to help.
These cats are not just animals; they are family. They bring joy, comfort, and companionship to so many. Please help give them the fighting chance they deserve.
Thank you for your kindness and support during this challenging time.
With gratitude,
Misty Martin
