The Barking Zoo! Twenty-three years in the making, is like many small businesses going through dire times. This established pet boutique, located in the heart of an area in New York City, called Chelsea, is fighting hard not to close its doors. It’s down to weeks before the hard choice of closing, is a reality. That is why The Barking Zoo is reaching out for support. With funding, The Barking Zoo, can at least buy store supplies to sell and help pay towards back rent.
Barking Zoo is located in the heart of Chelsea, at the same location for the past 23 years, by owner Alan Kraus, a staple within the community. Its doors are always open and welcoming to dogs of any breed and their owners and caretakers. Hence the stores name, The Barking Zoo. Treats, attention from the store employees and the chance to just explore the store, can be a dogs’ highlight of the day. It can also be the highlight of our staff.
The Barking Zoo is also known internationally as the go to place in New York City for its apparel. “They have a great reputation in New York City for having the highest quality winter apparel” and a plethora of toys, that both dogs and their owners can’t get enough of. The store also focuses on premium foods, locally sourced raw organic meats and local treats for dogs and cats.
One big giving back to the animal community, by The Barking Zoo, is it being heavily vested in supporting and donating to animal rescue organizations and shelters, such as the Funny For Fido comedy show, https://www.funnyforfido.org where comics stand up for homeless animals” and they raise money for the local rescues and shelters. The funds that are raised for the event and throughout the year are used to pay for veterinary care, training, food, transport and temporary and permanent housing for homeless animals. The Barking Zoo also accepts donations, in the form of toys, beds, and kitty litter, to donate to animal organizations.
So, what happened? What is the challenge? COVID and the economy! Obviously, like many small businesses, hardship is a reality during these times. As a small business, The Barking Zoo is no exception. A once thriving business has taken a hit, with loss of income from, their customers and the Barking Zoo unable to financially stay of top of things, like buying product to sell in its store.
What can you do? How can you help? We’re asking you to support The Barking Zoo, by making a donation, in order to keep the store open. Any amount you can donate will be more than appreciative by Alan Kraus, The Barking Zoo and our four legged friends!
And, by the way – The Barking Zoo will donate sweaters, from our inventory, to animal shelters on behalf of each donor contributing $100 or more.
We’ll keep you updated on how the funds are being applied and how your funding is helping to make The Barking Zoo a thriving,, community orientated, pet supporting business, once again.
Sincere, thanks to you and all for your gracious support. The Barking Zoo!
