In December, I adopted a rescue dog, hoping to bring some joy into our home. Sadly, after just three weeks, our new companion suffered a stroke and had to be euthanized. My 11-year-old son, who has special needs, was heartbroken. Determined to help him heal, we searched for another dog and were fortunate to find a new friend through a local rescue. Along the way, we met some wonderful people who needed a foster family for a mama dog and her two puppies. We welcomed them into our home, and after caring for them, we decided to keep one of the pups—Sunny. Just this week, after weaning, Sunny became very sick with a severe roundworm infection. I treated her immediately, but it meant missing two days of work to stay home and care for her. On top of that, I had to repair an issue with our well pump, which added to our financial strain. Today, Sunny became sick again. She was in pain and unable to go to the bathroom, so I rushed her to the vet. The vet suspects she may have an Intussusception, a serious condition that can only be confirmed by ultrasound and treated with surgery. If this is the case, I simply can't afford the cost on my own. Without treatment, Sunny may not survive, and my son would be devastated to lose another beloved companion. I have always been someone who gives to others, even when I have little to spare. Asking for help is not easy for me, but I am reaching out because I want to give Sunny the chance to recover and grow up with my son.
