My daughter Miranda is finishing her senior year of high school. The past few years have not been easy for her. After my divorce was finalized, we were all adjusting to a new normal. Post-COVID stress, starting over as a family of four, and navigating high school would have been overwhelming for anyone — especially a teenager.
Then Sugar came into our lives.
Sugar is a 6-year-old French Bulldog and a former breeder dog. She was rehomed to us in 2022 about a year after the divorce, at a time when Miranda was struggling the most. What started as a new pet quickly became something much deeper. Sugar and Miranda formed an incredible bond. They are inseparable — constant companions through homework, tears, laughter, and late-night cuddles. Sugar gave Miranda comfort, stability, and unconditional love when she needed it most.
Recently, we noticed something wasn’t right. After a rushed trip to the emergency vet, we received devastating news: Sugar has a mass growing inside her rectum. It is attached to her intestine and has begun protruding, causing dangerous blockage issues.
She needs surgery as soon as possible.
Because French Bulldogs are a brachycephalic breed, anesthesia and surgery come with higher risks. On top of that, she requires additional diagnostic testing to determine the full extent of the mass. The current estimated cost is $4,500.
As a single mom supporting Miranda and her two sisters on one income, this expense is overwhelming. We do not have pet insurance, and we are doing everything we can — but we can’t do this alone.
Sugar is not “just a dog.” She is Miranda’s emotional support, her best friend, and a cherished member of our family. The thought of losing her — especially during such an important year in Miranda’s life — is heartbreaking.
We are asking for any help you can give. Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to giving Sugar the surgery she needs and the chance to continue being by Miranda’s side.
If you can’t donate, please consider sharing our story.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your kindness, prayers, and support.
