My name is Brian Thomas. I am the co-owner of Status Q Billiards in Brooklyn NY. My brother Wayne is my partner in this business. September 2020 we were set to celebrate 30 years of Status Q being in business.
Status Q is now in danger of closing its doors for good. We ask for your help.
Monday March 16th 2020 was the last time any games have been played on our pool tables. Like most businesses, we closed our doors to do our part to control the spread of Covid-19. More than 6 months later, our Billiards business is still not open. With no end to New York's ban on Billiard playing, we are struggling to pay our rent and many other bills which are piling up.
We first began to offer takeout beverages in June and later built an outdoor dining structure. We were amazed at the support we have received from many friends, family and loyal customers. Many new faces have now become friends. This support has enabled us to stay alive and get to this point. This support helped us pay our electric bill, our insurance policy and a small percentage of the building mountain of rent that is due.
Most importantly, this support has kept my wonderful and loyal employees working and supporting themselves.
Unlike restaurants who are food focused and able to offer their main service to customers outdoors, we are at a disadvantage not being able to offer Billiards playing at all. Billiards is a niche industry that has seen a steep decline in interest over the years. We would love to be able to both stay in business and also remain a Billiard hall.
Our options right now are limited. We are soon to meet with our landlord to determine the fate of Status Q. We want to negotiate a way that we can survive this coming winter. Options range from expanding our food menu so that we may attract more business, giving back half of our square footage to our landlord or just plain closing our doors for good.
With your support we can continue to keep our doors open, keep our wonderful employees working and try to survive the ban on Billiard playing and reduced capacity at our business.
