Help Save St. John de LaSalle Church
Donation protected
Help us fight to Save St. John de LaSalle. The Diocese of Buffalo has made the decision to permanently close our church, which has stood on the grounds of Buffalo Ave. in Niagara Falls since 1907. Please support our legal efforts as we exercise our Right to Recourse and appeal this process through the Diocese of Buffalo, the Dicastery for Clergy, and the Apostolic Signatura in Rome. Any funds left from our appeal will be donated back to the church or to the food pantry.
Update from 12/7/24:
We are grateful to our neighbours down the street for hosting our meeting today. We had some great discussions and some great snacks as well! Here's what you need to know:
The formal decree of Merger for our parish should be posted this weekend. Look for it in church or on the parish website and social media.
On December 2nd and December 5th, we submitted formal appeals (Remonstratiae) to Bishop Fisher. He now has thirty days to respond.
Once we receive his response (or at the end of thirty days) we will submit our first appeal to Rome. Our advocate in Rome is already researching the case and has found many things that will work in our favor. This part of the process will take until at least SEPTEMBER 2025. The entire process may take two years or more.
Because we needed to put more time and effort into the Remonstratiae, we are facing greater costs than expected. Please consider an additional donation via Cash, cheque, or vemno to @Michael-Slish-1. Donations may also be accepted on our GoFundMe. https://gofund.me/82519fe0 We will be having fundraisers in the new year. Stay tuned!
⛪While the process is moving forward, St. John's (and all related ministries) REMAIN OPEN. Please come to Mass on January 12th and beyond. Contact the parish to schedule baptisms, weddings, Mass intentions or whatever else you need. These are the things that give us life!
Let people know what is happening with the appeal process and that they should still come to Mass, Bingo, and the pantry! Tell them that we are not going anyway! INVITE SOMEONE! We hope that this process leaves our parish stronger and ready to serve our community for years to come!
⁉️ If you see something or wonder something, SAY SOMETHING! Many of your questions and thoughts have helped us build a stronger case. As we saw today, we are a strong and well-connected community, which is one of our greatest assets for the road ahead.
St. John Baptiste de LaSalle, pray for us!
Live, Jesus in our hearts... Forever!
