Help save Spike's leg

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Fiona and I'm cat mum to 4 year old Spike. He's an active boy who likes to pop outside for some fresh air. Unfortunately yesterday he was hit by a car resulting in a badly broken leg. Spike wears a collar with his name and phone number on it, so clearly the driver didn't stop to see if he was ok or try to help him. Spike made his way home and I found him outside in the garden as he wasn't able to make it up the steps. I rushed him to the emergency vet and they were fabulous with him. They kept him overnight and established that he has a badly displaced fracture of his left hind ankle. He is being x-rayed again under anaesthetic this morning to check for any pelvic injury, but they are fairly certain he'll need to have his leg amputated. There are options to try and save it and this is where I need help. His insurance maxes out at £2000 and the surgery to repair his leg will run closer to £4000. There is also the chance that the insurance company won't pay out for the surgery if they consider amputation is sufficient. But Spike is a young, active cat who loves his adventures in the garden and the park next to my house and I worry he'll be miserable if I have to restrict him. There is always the chance he'll want to stay indoors anyway after such a traumatic experience but his quality of life is my main concern. Any help towards the additional cost of the orthopaedic consultation and treatment would be so, so appreciated
