Over the last few days, Spike, our beautiful little Flame Point boy, began losing his balance and acting disoriented. At first, we thought it might be a vestibular (inner ear) issue, but things quickly took a terrifying turn. Last night, Spike suffered what looked like a seizure, which sent us rushing back to the ER. The veterinarians now believe it wasn’t a seizure, but rather an exacerbation of a central neurological condition. They strongly suspect Neurological FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a diagnosis that was once a death sentence for cats. Thankfully, there is now a life-saving antiviral treatment available, but it is an intense, 90-day protocol that is incredibly expensive.

The financial reality is overwhelming. We have already spent and borrowed a significant amount to get Spike through his first crisis and initial testing. The first phase of FIP treatment will cost another large sum, and there’s a chance he may need a second course. Despite these challenges, the treatment offers an 85% success rate, and with your help, Spike could be cured and have many more happy years ahead. He is not quite two years old and is truly the light of our home. We are not ready to give up on him, and we know he has so much life left to live.
