Help Save Sophie & Her Babies
Donation protected
I came to Egypt chasing adventure, but instead, I found Sophie — a one-eyed cat with a fierce spirit and four tiny lives depending on her.
When I arrived in Dahab, Sophie started appearing at my door. Thin, frantic, and covered in dirt, she was clearly starving and desperate. At first, I thought she was just another stray looking for food. But she kept coming back, not just for the meals, but for help. Slowly, she led me to her hidden litter of four kittens, tucked away behind some cushions under a very loud gazebo next to a speaker.
Staff at the resort claimed she was “fed,” but her bones told a different story. Despite my allergies, Sophie and I are so deeply bonded.
I’m leaving Egypt soon, and having contacted every local rescue group, there’s no space for them. The streets here are no place for a vulnerable mother and her babies. Poisoning, disease, starvation, these are daily threats. I can’t leave them behind. If all adoption and animal welfare centers remain at capacity and I can’t find a local foster here in Dahab, I will do everything in my power to negotiate with the resort — to try and come to an agreement where, in exchange for a monetary incentive, they might provide safe shelter and take the cats to their vet appointments.
After speaking with experienced rescuers and expats, there’s a plan — but it’s a long road:
What They Need:
1. Passports & Medical Care
Each cat needs a rabies vaccine, microchip, full vet checks, and a special blood test (the rabies titer test), which must be sent to an approved lab in Europe. This process alone takes 4-5 months, as they must wait in Egypt until the test results are cleared.
2. Daily Survival Care
While we wait for test results, they’ll need daily food, shelter, and love — all while staying off the streets.
3. Spaying/Neutering
To prevent even more suffering, they’ll all need to be sterilized. Mom has been spayed but the kittens must wait until 6 months.
4. A Home in Europe
I’m actively searching for adopters or fosters in Europe — somewhere they can finally be safe and loved.
Sophie is a survivor. She found me, trusted me, and now I’m asking for your help to honour that trust.
Every donation will go directly to:
• Veterinary bills and vaccinations
• Blood tests and microchipping
• Food, and temporary shelter
• Transport and passport processing
This is a long and costly journey, but it’s the only chance Sophie and her kittens have at a life off the streets. She’s fought so hard to protect her babies.
Please donate if you can, and share their story if you can’t.
This is a small act of compassion in a world that desperately needs more of them. There are many cats suffering, especially in countries where street animal populations are overwhelming and support systems are limited. But that doesn’t mean Sophie and her kittens don’t matter. They’re real and they found me. I'm not trying to save every cat in Egypt, I'm trying to save these five lives... ❤️
