On my trip to Bhutan in 2018, I had the pleasure of meeting Au Sonam in Paro, Bhutan at some local AA and NA meetings. He went out of his way to help me out and make me feel a part of his recovery family in Bhutan.I got to hear his story (https://tinyurl.com/bhutansonam) and learn about all the amazing work he had done to bring AA and NA to Bhutan for the first time and secure funding for Bhutan's first recovery center! (https://bhutanrecovery.org/)
Since my trip we have remained in contact and it has been heartbreaking to hear about his ongoing health problems. He has a kidney issue which requires dialysis and he must travel to India for treatment and pay for all of it himself. Meanwhile, he continues to run the recovery center and is raising a son on his own.
Sonam has dedicated his life to helping others, Im hoping those of us that are more fortunate can lend a hand this year so that Sonam can live, his son can have a father, and Bhutan can still have their bright shining light of recovery.
