I know that San Francisco has lost its glimmer to many folks. It was once the heart and soul of incredible music and amazing artists. It was once a bastion for free thinkers and enticing conversations. It was a place that great beers and wines were an expectation. The restaurants and bars were not just “good” rather they changed the way the rest of the world did things. It was a little rusty but even more amazing because of it. The grit and charm of the beautiful city was all that mattered to many of us.
We want that San Francisco back.
We opened Shovels Bar a week before the Covid lockdowns began in this city. Despite the cities unbelievably low levels of Covid 19 infections, our mayor has seemingly targeted our restaurants and bars as the primary cause of the Covid problem.
Our stunning bar is a throwback to early San Francisco. The bar was built in 1912 and, to the best of our knowledge, has been a speakeasy for at least 14 years of its history. It’s located in the heart of the Tenderloin and we love it. We are locally owned with a penchant for superb beers, incredible cocktails and ridiculously tasty burgers. We have lots of room to sit and chill. A full size antique pool table is begging to be played for the zillionth time. Couple that with all the character and curiosities smattered about, we are certain you’ll love it. Kelborg, the owner, is a tiny yet fiery mainstay of the bar. She keeps our staff on their toes and our customers constantly smiling. We are very proud of what we’ve built.
All that said, we can’t stay open without your help. We currently can’t serve any cocktails onsite and we never know what the city will do next to damage our ability to survive. We are hoping that you are willing to purchase some gift cards to get us through. We’re not asking for anything free. We’re simply asking that you give us a chance to feed you or cheer you up in the future.
We know everyone is getting hurt right now. We sincerely hope you are all going to make it through without too much pain.
