For 14 years, Shenandoah Seasonal has been committed to growing organic vegetables for families throughout the Shenandoah Valley and the greater Washington, D.C. region. Every season, we pour our hearts into caring for the land, producing healthy food, and building relationships with the community that has supported us since 2012.

This season, everything changed in an instant. An herbicide application on a very windy day drifted onto our certified organic farm, severely damaging ALL of our summer plants in the nursery. After months of planning, planting, cultivating, and caring, many of those crops have been lost or have critically low yields. The financial impact is severe. Not only have we lost vegetables that would have supplied our CSA members, farmers markets, restaurants, and farm stand, but we've also lost the revenue those crops would have generated during one of the busiest parts of our season. As a small family farm, a loss like this is impossible to absorb. We immediately reported the incident to the appropriate agencies and are documenting the damage. While we continue to pursue every available avenue for recovery, those processes take time—and they cannot replace the crops we've already lost, layoffs we've had to make, and the heartbreak we've endured.

Funds raised will help us replace lost crops where possible, purchase seeds and transplants for fall production, support our incredible farm team, continue serving our CSA members and local community, and keep Shenandoah Seasonal financially stable through this difficult season. We’ve already seen $150,000 in damages and estimate they could be over $250,000 by the end of the season.

When Ali and Dan founded Shenandoah Seasonal, we dreamed of creating more than a farm. We wanted to build a place that nourishes families, strengthens the local food system, and connects people to where their food comes from. Before this incident, we were in the process of signing two leases - one for more land and the other to open a storefront in Winchester to continue serving the community with local produce.
