Help Save Sansa's Life

Sansa is our 9 year old Pomeranian x Dachshund. We adopted her from Victorian Dog Rescue in February 2017.
Since adopting her, she has required lots of different surgeries.
In 2018, she needed a lump removed from her eyelid.
Again in 2018, she needed surgery to fix a luxating patella in her left leg.
Then in 2020, she needed surgery to fix a luxating patella in her right leg!
Unfortunately this year, she needed surgery to get a biopsy of a lump found in her rectum during a regular check-up.
(all of the above surgeries we paid for ourselves, out of pocket)
The tests came back malignant, which was unexpected to myself and the vet surgeon at Peninsula Vet Care Mt Eliza. We were referred to their Referral Hospital in Mornington to investigate further with a CT scan.
Sansa has a rectal malignant melanoma.
These are really rare, in dogs as well as humans. Because of how rare it is, our surgeon consulted with an oncologist who, even then, had to compare it's behaviour to oral melanomas because there is not enough literature on rectal melanomas.
We're incredibly lucky that we caught it before it spread to other parts of her body, but this cancer is invasive and aggressive, so we're worried about how much time we have to act.
Because of the location of the cancer, it cannot be fully surgically removed without making Sansa incontinent.
We only intend to go through with treatments that will not cause any trauma for her. We do not want to put her through any harm just because we want her to survive.
The money we raise will be going to Sansa's cancer treatments.
Our goal is $17,000
This will cover:
- Chemotherapy ($5,000 - $6,000)
- Radiation therapy ($11,000)
Radiation therapy requires us to travel to Sydney so Sansa can be treated at a referral hospital in Homebush for a week. The $11,000 only covers the treatment. We intend to drive and stay, and pay out of pocket for petrol, accomodation, etc.
Sansa is my soul mate. I knew it at soon as I saw her picture on PetRescue.
I know when it comes to the end of a dog's life, it can be very hard to let them go.
But I know that Sansa has so, so much fight left in her. She has so much life to live. She's been through 4 surgeries, at least 3 different homes and survived through Mildura pound. She's a fighter. She's a tough cookie. And she wouldn't let some stupid butt cancer bring her down. I'd bet everything I have on her.
I just want to do everything I can to help her through it.
Maybe I'm delusional. Maybe I'm too much of an optimist. But the vet says that with treatment, we could get at least another year with her. Without it, we'll lose her within a few months.
Please help us help Sansa. She is the sweetest, sweetest girl.
